Dick Sheley

December 26, 1931 ~ October 20, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Dick Sheley, age 85, of Lees Creek, passed at home on Friday, October 20, 2017.
Born December 26, 1931, he was the son of Hubert and Garnet 'Bandy' Sheley.
Dick was a passionate barrel racer and Quarter Horse trainer. He also showed and judged horses, and was the Ring Crew Manager at the Quarter Horse Congress for many years.  Dick was a member of the ProTour Hall of Fame and was an instructor, for over 30 years, at the Boone and Campbell County 4-H Horse Camps in Kentucky.  Dick was instrumental in designing the 'Dick Sheley' saddle. Dick worked at NCR Dayton for 20 years.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Lee Anne (Lee) Layman, of Sabina and JoLynn (John) Handel of Dry Ridge, KY.  Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Hayden, Holten, and Halena Handel, and Judson and Shepard Layman; brother, Tom Sheley, of Sabina; nieces, Cynthia Saylor and Claudia Hayes; and nephews, Billy and Noel Bean.
In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Bean, and a brother, Arthur Sheley.
A graveside service will be held at 4 pm on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Milledgeville Plymouth Cemetery.
