Gordon Yahr Obituary

Gordon Edward Yahr, born October 3, 1936, in Petoskey, Michigan, entered eternity on September 16, 2018 at his home in Lady Lake, Florida.

Gordon was very active in numerous civic and religious organizations, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Christ United Methodist Church, and the Freemasons. Those who served alongside Gordon were as important to him as the service itself. The friendships he formed were among his most prized possessions.

Gordon retired from the US Navy in 1994, and from the federal government in 1996, and has been a resident of Lady Lake for nearly 20 years.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Mary Lou Sollars Yahr, his parents, Arthur Alfred Yahr and Miriam Ruth Davis, and his sister, Sandra Newville.

He is survived by Mrs. Nellie Yahr (Arthur), his sister Kathryn Dagley (Dave), his children Deborah Beemer (Larry), Mary Jo Yarano (Ron), Lisa Kelly (Sean), and Timothy Yahr; grandchildren Holli (Darrell), Megan, Stephen, Matthew, Sarah, Sean Michael and Kathryn; and great-grandchildren Gary, Christopher, Zoe, Christian, Gabriel, and Orion.

A memorial service will be held at Gordon’s home church, St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 22nd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers (maryknollsociety.org).

A graveside service, under the direction of Littleton Funeral Home, will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 2pm at White Oak Cemetery.
