Richard L. Coates

Richard Lee Coates, age 72, of Washington Court House, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Fayette County Memorial Hospital. 

Richard was born on October 15, 1946, in Jamestown, to Ralph William Coates and Sylvia Pauline Dawson. 

He retired from Sugar Creek Packing Company have 45 years of service.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting and watching the Chicago Bears and Ohio State football.  He also loved old westerns.  Richard loved and was very proud of his children and grandsons. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother, Ralph Andrew Coates and best friend, Danny Davey. 

Richard is survived by his wife, the former Carol Jean Smith, whom he married on December 14, 1968.  Also left to cherish his memory is a son and daughter in-law, Jeremy and Dee Coates of Staunton, two daughters and sons in-law, Kelly and Matt Anders of Bloomingburg and Heather and Dan Vigo of Myrtle Beach; five grandsons: Mark and wife Emily, Aaron and wife Maggie, Noah and girlfriend Darrian, Corey and girlfriend Taylor, and Clayton; great grandson, Benjamin; a brother, Don and wife Doris of Kentucky; and two best friends, Ernie Lynch and Jerry Baker. 

Visitation will be Sunday, November 18, 2018, from 2 – 4pm at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, where a funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday.  Jon Mercer and Matt Anders will officiate; burial to follow at Koontz Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the NRA and the American Heart Association. 

The family is appreciative of the care from Fayette County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Mesker, all the nurses, and Cheryl Royster, along with Kendall Home Health Care and Heritage of Hillsboro.
