Carolyn Marie Thomas, age 102, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at Jamestown Health and Rehab after a lengthy battle with dementia.
She was born on June 15, 1922, in Oxford, Ohio to Rose and Samuel Soltysik. Carolyn was the youngest of six children. She was preceded by death by her parents; her five siblings: Sophie LePere, Helen Lloyd, Jenny Bonar, Lou Soltysik and Tony Soltysik; her husband, Harold E. Thomas (Pinky), whom she married on December 29, 1945, and her beloved dog, Jada.
After graduating from high school at age 16, Carolyn attended and graduated from Miami University in 1942 with a bachelors degree in Business/Accounting. She then moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she worked as an auditor and then came back to Ohio to be an accountant at Med-O-Pure Dairy in Washington Court House. She returned to the University of Cincinnati to earn her master’s degree in accounting/secondary education. Carolyn began teaching co-op classes at Greene County Vocational School until her retirement.
Carolyn’s interests included golf, Eastern Star, and Jamestown Garden Club. She was a member of the Jamestown Methodist Church, the Greene County and Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and the Jamestown Historical Society (secretary/treasurer).
Carolyn loved traveling and teaching her grandchildren how to play golf.
The family would like to thank the staff at Jamestown Place and Rehab for the wonderful care for Carolyn for the past six years.
Carolyn is survived by her son: Terry Thomas (Mary Jo); her daughter, Sharon Thomas; grandchildren: Matthew Thomas (Jordan), Michael Thomas (Mellissa), Trevor Thomas (Kristin), Ryan Thomas (Heather) and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at Jamestown Church of Christ in Jamestown, Ohio. Burial and graveside services are to follow at Washington Cemetery in Washington Court House, for the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Association, Sisca Pet Adoption and Wellness Center or the American Heart Association.
