Dorothy Jean (Dunn) Mcdowell

June 18, 1939 — September 21, 2021

Sabina

In the grey light of a rainy Tuesday afternoon, at 12:04pm, at home with her son reading her favorite Bible scriptures and holding the hand of the only man she ever loved, Dorothy Jean Dunn McDowell was released from her tormented body.

She had suffered the effects of Alzheimer’s disease for ten years.  Her husband, James William ‘Bill’ McDowell, Sr., her husband of 66 years, was constantly urged to admit her to a nursing facility.  He steadfastly refused.  Caring for her at their home in Sabina, his commitment never wavered.

Jean was born in Highland County on June 18, 1939, she was the daughter Mary Burkitt Dunn Smith and Robert John Dunn.  She left for her Heavenly home on September 21, 2021, at the age of 82.

Jean attended high school in Piketon, Ohio and had retired as an Optometric Assistant.  She was an accomplished musician on the piano and excelled as a seamstress.  Jean enjoyed crafting and painting.

In addition to her devoted husband, Jean is survived by their three children: James W. Jr. (Beverly) McDowell, Richard L. (Sheri) McDowell, and Pamela J. McDowell.  Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Jeremiah (Kazi) McDowell, Hollie McDowell (Joseph) Kowalski, Jamie McDowell (Chris) Evanshine, Daniel Denny, Caitlin McDowell (Ryan) Sandidge, Abigail Denny (Joshua) Singer, and David Denny; blessed great-grandchildren: Andrew (Cari) Fecke, Gracie Evanshine, Gabriel McDowell, Dominik Kowalski, Elizabeth Evanshine, Isaiah Kowalski, Carson McDowell, Jackson Singer, Josie Kowalski, Ruby Singer, Bo Singer, Sawyer Singer and Wally Wright; along with her sister, Helen M. Wilson, and sister in-law, Helene Dunn.  Her steadfast dedication to her children was exceeded only by her commitment as a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Olaf P. Dunn.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to The Alzheimer’s Association or Community Care Hospice.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, from 11-2pm, when a funeral service will begin.  Burial to follow at Sabina Cemetery.
