Dwight Henry Sparks was born at home in Sabina, Ohio, on election day, November 6, 1928. He married his love, Thelma Cook, on June 8, 1953 and they honored each other for 63 years. He was a long time resident of Upper Arlington, Ohio. He passed peacefully on April 22, 2020 during the world COVID-19 pandemic, presumably from this illness.

He is survived by his loving daughters: Gail (Michel) Laurent; Diane Sparks; Brenda (David) Scholl; and Susan (David) Beyerle; grandchildren: Renee (Josh) Crim, Stephanie (Rob) Shaul, Don (Karen) Owen, Bridgette (Rob) Langdon, Laura and Matthew Beyerle; great-granddaughters: Elanor and Meghan Crim; great-grandson: Henry Langdon; sister in law: Margaret Sparks and niece: Janet (Ollie) Sparks Read. He is predeceased by his wife: Thelma (Cook) Sparks, brother: Donald Sparks, sister: Joann Sparks, and by his grandson, Eric Laurent.

Dwight graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1952, earned his Professional Engineer license, and worked as a bridge design engineer for the Ohio Dept of Transportation for the majority of his career.  Dwight was a devoted husband and father. His interests and activities included wood-working, photography, square dancing, and travel. He is fondly remembered for mentoring many people in various walks of life, with purpose and integrity. He lived his life industriously and with serious intent, but was also playful and had a subtle wit. He demonstrated and shared his strong Christian faith as an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, particularly enjoying participating in the yearly cinnamon roll baking fundraiser and working with the “Tuesday Crew” for Habitat for Humanity. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
