Garry L. Akers, age 74, of Sabina, passed away at Clinton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Born in Columbus on August 12, 1951, he was the son of the late Dewey Akers, Jr. and Wilma Charlene Johnson Akers Yeakley.
A 1969 East Clinton graduate, Garry went on to receive a bachelor's degree in business and serve in the Air Force Reserves, where he retired at the rank of First Sergeant. He worked in various management roles, most recently at Alkermes in Wilmington. Garry enjoyed camping and was a true outdoorsman; he could live off the land alone if he had to. Very involved in Boy Scouts, Garry was a Scout Leader for many years. He enjoyed target shooting, finance and stocks, computers, and was dedicated to genealogy research, as far back as the 1700s.
He is survived by his children: Necole Davis of New Vienna, Christopher Akers of Wilmington, Christine (Todd) Barstow of Wilmington, Scott Akers of Marysville, Brian (Edith) Akers of Hilliard and Lauren (Don) Rush of Woodstock; grandchildren: Conner, Andrew, Ashley, Emily, Hannah, Bryson, Luna and Lillian; along with four great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory is Garry’s twin brother, Larry (Danna) Akers of New Vienna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Akers.
Family will receive friends at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10am until Noon, when a funeral service will begin. Burial is to follow at New Vienna IOOF Cemetery.
