Gary R. Gottfried, age 79, of South Charleston, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Tiffin, Ohio on October 16, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert and Wanda ‘Fox’ Gottfried.

Gary was an auditor and treasurer in his professional career. He was a longtime employee of Landmark which later became TruePoint. Gary enjoyed being active. Some of his favorite activities were golfing, biking, and competing in triathlons. Although quiet and reserved in his everyday life, Gary was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and loved supporting the football team. Above all, Gary cherished time with his grandchildren. He could often be found playing jokes on them and watching their activities from the stands.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Mitzie Wilson Gottfried. Also left to cherish his memory are children: Beth (Craig) Wilding of Brussells, Anne (Neal) Rigsby of Franklin, Tennessee, Andrew (Lisa) Gottfried of Morrow, Craig (Bonnie) Hartman of South Charleston, and Reneé (Ryan Werling) Hatert of Oregonia; grandchildren: Brooklyn, MacKenzie, Wyatt, Peyton, Graham, Carson, Adelyn, Raelynn, Charlotte, and Dylan; and sister in-law, Jenny Gottfried.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Gottfried and brother, Don.

A private graveside service will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Wyandot County.
