Gwendolyn Young Maher, age 89, of Wilmington, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Born August 29, 1936, she was the daughter of James Wilford and Helen Johnson Young.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, John K. ‘Jack’ Maher.

A 1954 Wilmington High School graduate, Gwen worked for the Daisy Patch and McCarty Gardens, but her favorite job was being a farm wife. She took pride in working alongside her husband and loved driving the combine.

For over 40 years, Gwen was a 4H Advisor; she was also a member of the Clinton County 4H Board, where she served as treasurer for many years, keeping immaculate records. On Friday nights, Gwen and Jack hosted Youth Horse Shows at their home. She was a member of the 3C Saddle Club and one of the first women on the Clinton County Fair Board.

Gwen loved the Reds and the Bengals. She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren, rarely missing any event or activity they participated in. Mowing grass was a job Gwen took very seriously – she was proud of her lines. Sunday drives, lunch excursions, and visiting 9 states in 7 days were cherished memories she made with her daughters.

Gwen is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Jackie and Kevin Smith of Wilmington and Jonda and Warren McCarren of Waynesville. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Derek (Lauren Weinberger) Smith, JT McCarren and Gracie McCarren; brother, Jim (Mary) Young; sister in-law, Carol (Howard, dec.) Maher; brother in-law, Don (Cindy) Maher; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Gwen was preceded in death by her brother and sister in-law, Gary and Mickey Young.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, would be greatly appreciated to Hospice of Cincinnati and the Clinton County 4H Club.

A graveside service will take place at 10am on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Sabina Cemetery. Littleton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
