Harold “Doggie” Anderson, age 96, of Sabina, passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Born in Sabina on December 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Samuel Earl and Lora Leach Anderson.
Doggie is survived by his devoted wife of 75 years, Carolyn Knapp Anderson. The two were united in marriage on September 24, 1948.
A 1946 Sabina High School graduate, Doggie was a farm boy at heart. He was the manager of Landmark of Clinton County, Sabina branch until it’s closing and retired from the Lees Creek branch after 43 years of service. Starting as a volunteer, Doggie went on to become the Fire Chief of the Sabina Volunteer Fire Department; his tenure on the department was nearly 30 years.
In his younger years, Doggie milked cows for Bill Zurface, coached youth league baseball and football, and enjoyed playing softball. He loved all sports and was an avid golfer, even preparing to hit the course for the 2024 season. He was a faithful member of the Sabina United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Doggie is survived by their children: Cathy McDonald of Miner, Missouri, Carol (Brian) Terrell of Columbus, and Jack (Cindy) Anderson of New Vienna. Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren: Amber Cossey, Ann Alston, Adam (Leslie) Terrell, Nicholas Anderson, Megan (Ryan) Pennell, Andrew (Stacy) Terrell, Wesley (Alisha Peters) Anderson, Alex (John Carney) Anderson, and Tracy (Buck) Webb; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Slavens of Washington Court House; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Doggie was preceded in death by daughter, Jane E. Anderson; son in-law, Danny McDonald; siblings: Donald (Virginia) Anderson, Ronald (Joyce) Anderson; and brother in-law, Fred Slavens.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers, to the Sabina United Methodist Church and the Sabina Library.
Friends may call on the Anderson family at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 1pm until 3pm, when a memorial service will begin. Burial will take place at Sabina Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
