James “Jim” Lee McCandless, 58, of New Richmond, formerly of New Vienna, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family, after a nearly four-year battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme.
Anyone who knew Jim knew of his love for listening to music or playing the juke box, feeding the local stray cats, having a good time with his friends and $2 bills, which he was known to frequently hand out to people.
Jim worked at Ferno-Washington for 33 years in the maintenance department and eventually served as maintenance supervisor...there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was also a devoted member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since he was 18, both of which he was extremely proud of.
Jim was born on September 20, 1967, In Wilmington, Ohio to William “Bill” and the late Sharon McCandless.
Jim is survived by his father, Bill McCandless; his wife, LaVonne McCandless; his daughter, Jamie (Kurtis) Boggs of New Richmond; his two beloved granddaughters, Abigail and Aubrie Boggs; his sisters, Jeanell Knauff (Mark McConaughey) and Jennifer Floyd (Darin DeWeese) ; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a long list of friends who were like family to him; including Abe Arnold, Matt Vanhoose, Jason Vanhoose, Mark Morales, special friend/care giver Tammy Singleton and many more.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon McCandless, and his brothers-in-law, David Clay and Danny Vance.
Per Jim’s request, there will be no funeral or graveside services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the family’s convenience. Further details to be announced.
Anyone who wishes may make memorial contributions in Jim’s memory to: League For Animal Welfare, 4193 Taylor Road, Batavia, OH, 45103
