James R. Spurlock

James R. Spurlock, age 78, of Leesburg, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Born on May 5, 1945, in Sabina, he was the son of the late Howard ‘Happy; and Alice Scowden Spurlock.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan R. Briggs, in 2014.

Jim worked at Pennington Bakery for 16 years and was self-employed before his retirement.  He was a heavy equipment operator.  Jim attended the First Church of God and the Sabina Church of Christ.

He is survived by children: Rick (Sherry) of Cummings, GA, Jimmy Spurlock and Steve Spurlock, both of Wilmington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Also left to cherish Jim’s memory are four brothers: Estel (Patty), Roger (Connie), Larry (Kathy), and Terry (Kim) Spurlock; two sisters: Marcie Spurlock and Roxie (Sonny Morgan) Woods; and many nieces and nephews; along with special friend, Patty Carson, who was an excellent caregiver to Jim over the last eight months.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Smith; and brothers: Guy, Wayne, John, Paul and Dale Spurlock.

Family will receive friends at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 12Noon until the time of service at 1:30pm.  Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery, Buena Vista.
