Joyce (Shoemaker) Day

Joyce Day, age 82, of Wilmington, passed away on Friday May 26, 2023, at Clinton Memorial Emergency Room.

Born October 5, 1940, the daughter of Estel and Imogene (Huffman) Shoemaker.

She is preceded by her husband, James Day in 2018.

Born and raised in Sabina, she graduated Sabina High School in 1958 and was very active in school activities: cheerleader, majorette and Jr. Class President. Joyce continued to be in touch with 1958 class members after graduation, planning reunions with others help, the last one being 60 years. She was a baptized member of the Wilmington Church of Christ. During the years her two sons were in grade/high school. she was a member of the Sabina Mother’s Club, a room mother, always attending basketball, baseball, swim events and anything they were involved in. Joyce spent all but 8 ½ years in Sabina and Wilmington; the rest she enjoyed living in Florida, where she made several dear friends.

Joyce is survived by her sons: Mark (Susan) Smith of Pendleton KY and Kevin (Jackie) Smith of Wilmington. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Stephanie Smith, Brent (Amanda) Lawson, Derek (Lauren Weinberger) Smith, and Brittany (Terry) Fenner; great grandchildren: Brody, Zayn, Maison, Ruby, Evelyn, Rylan, Zander, Weston and Maddox; along with several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She is also survived by Molli, her beloved rescue poodle.

In addition to her husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-Law, Estel Jr. and Marilyn Shoemaker, and nephew, Pastor Rick Shoemaker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association.

A public graveside service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the Sabina Cemetery.
