Mildred H. Thoroman, age 96, of Sabina, passed away Friday evening, June 9, 2017, at the Veterans Home in Georgetown.
Born June 14, 1920 in Great Bend, Kansas, she was the daughter of George L. and Mildred Knighton Herren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Frank W. Thoroman. The two met while serving their country and were married, in 1943, in Australia.
After high school Mildred attended Great Bend Nursing School in Kansas and then served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp. during World War II. While in the Army, she was stationed in Australia and New Guinea.
After the war, she raised her family in Sabina and worked at Clinton Memorial Hospital. Mildred spent 20 years as a critical care nurse, and in that time, she was instrumental in opening the first Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Mildred is survived by her children, Patricia (Richard) Lynch of Anchorage, AK, and Robert H. (Rhonda) Thoroman of Palmers AK; daughter in-law, Debra Thoroman of Sabina and son in-law, Ronald Thompson of Washington C.H. Also left to cherish her memory are three grandsons and their families: Josh (Kristi) Thoroman and their children, Gabrielle Faye, Cam William and Mac Charles; Jarrod (Jackie) Thoroman and their children, Gracie Kaye, Taylor Fern, and Kyle William Leaf; and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Thoroman and their children, Emma Sue and Abigail Marie. .
In addition to her husband, Mildred is preceded in death by children: Jannean Thompson and William F. Thoroman.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sinking Springs at the convenience of the family.
