Samuel W. (“Bill”) Sanderson, age 70, passed peacefully at his home in Leesburg on September 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill’s life began in 1956 in Washington Court House, Ohio as one of five children of Elza and Virginia (Boggs) Sanderson. Bill’s sisters remember him as a sweet and quiet child who quickly grew into a strong willed and fun loving young adult. Bill was on the wrestling and football teams at Miami Trace High School and East Clinton High School, graduating in 1974. He spent 16 years married to Teresa Everman McMahon, mother to his beloved daughters, Katie (Kyle) Wilson and Sarah (Matt Williams) Sanderson, and in later years Jeff and Teresa McMahon were counted as friends and co-grandparents.
Bill retired from R&L Trucking with four decades of service as a driver, where he also made many lifelong friends. Over the years, Bill was a Harley lover and hosted hundreds of his closest friends for parties at his house on Weaver Road in Sabina. In later years, he enjoyed quiet solitude in the outdoors. He appreciated walking his farm with his dog Deter, riding his horse Teddy, shooting guns, raising pheasants, gardening, and watching birds on his plethora of bird feeders. Bill was a loyal and fierce protector of those he loved, who could always be counted on to show up to provide a strong hug, even stronger handshake, and help when it was needed.
Of all his joys in life, by far his greatest was the role of “Pa” to his five cherished grandchildren, Charles and Virginia Williams and Francis, Theo, and Carter Wilson. Pa will be remembered for his playful teasing, “bear trap” hugs, tractor rides, and endless supplies of cookies and donuts.
Bill is also survived by his wife Susan Sanderson, his sisters, Barbara (Johnnie) Mastin, Teri (John) Humphries, and Ginny (Steve, deceased) Wical, nieces, nephews, and Boggs cousins who will dearly miss him. Preceding him in death are his parents Elza and Virginia, brother Elza Sanderson Jr, and grandson, Samuel Mark Wilson. His family is comforted knowing he was called home by his mother, Ginny to be “Pa” to Sam in Heaven. Bill was a private person who requested no funeral services. In honor of his memory, please tell a story about his life, hug your grandchildren, or donate to the angels on earth at Ohio’s Hospice.
