Wanda I. (Swisshelm) Haines

June 29, 1928 — April 27, 2024

Denver, Colorado

Wanda Irene Swisshelm Haines, age 95, passed away in Denver, Colorado on April 27, 2024, after a short illness.

She was born in Clinton County, Ohio, on June 29, 1928.

She was preceded in death by husband, Carl N. Haines in 1999 and by their son, Donald, in 2012.

Wanda grew up in the Sabina area and graduated from Port William High School in 1947. She was active in Eastern Star and after graduation worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Wanda married Carl Noble Haines, a Navy Veteran and the love of her life. Son, Donald, was the greatest joy of their lives and they were very proud of his accomplishments. Wanda, Carl and Donnie moved to Denver, Colorado in 1959, where they fully embraced the many outdoor activities available. Hiking in the mountains, camping, hunting and fishing were regular activities for the Haines family. Wanda and Carl also joined the Table Mountain Gun Club and participated in many shooting competitions.

Wanda was an exceptional seamstress and, for many years, had a custom drapery business. She was also an excellent cook and loved to bake pies and cakes. She would take just a little bit for herself and give the rest to her neighbors.

She was the lone surviving child of Homer and Jessie (Darbyshire) Swisshelm.

Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings: Harold (Mary), Earl (Mary Anna Evans), Franklin (Rose Celentana), Donald (Barbara Larson), Homer, Jr. (Ann Hadley), Geneva Minshall (Ernest), Sula Evans (Arthur), Opal Cook (Charles), Doris Kendall (Robert), and Dorothy Swisshelm.

Wanda is survived by sister-in-law, Ann Swisshelm, of Xenia and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Her neighbors, Cary and Maryann Brown and Sal and Juana Enriquez, were like her family and Wanda cared deeply for them.
