William H. Waddell, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at a local hospital in El Paso, Texas after a long illness. Bill was born in Sabina, Ohio on October 18, 1936, the son of the late Everett C. Waddell and Juanita A. Waddell.
Bill began his lifelong banking career in 1958 at Huntington National Bank in Columbus, Ohio, and thereafter he held various executive management positions at banks primarily in Miami, Florida and in El Paso, Texas where he ultimately joined Weststar Bank (then Bank of the West) as Senior Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer until his retirement in 2016.
Bill earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio and was a graduate of The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Throughout his banking career, Bill found great satisfaction in helping his customers achieve financial success and in watching their businesses grow and prosper. After retiring, he continued to stay busy and involved with office work at home and in the management of his farms which were always a deep source of pride to him.
Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lili, their son, Trevor (Becky) and his granddaughter, Lily. He is also survived by his children from a previous marriage, Shelley Jackson (Roger)) of Florida and Stephen (Christy) of Arkansas as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett C. Waddell and Juanita A. Waddell, his sister Barbara Morris and brother-in-law Jim and a nephew.
Bill was the epitome of hard work, perseverance and sheer determination, and will be remembered for his love of family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf since he was very young and was the recipient of a Hole-In-One award at one time. Music was of great importance to him, and he enjoyed reading and talking about current events, politics, American history and many other topics. Bill was an exceptional man who had a great mind and possessed strong analytical skills that served him well throughout his lifetime as well as a disarming sense of humor. His legacy of resilience in the face of adversity, love and guidance will forever live on in our hearts.
Bill will be laid to rest next to his parents in Sabina, Ohio. Private funeral services are provided by the Littleton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio or a favorite charity.
