Betty Adam Obituary

Betty J. ‘Grandma Betty’ Adam, age 89, passed peacefully at her home in New Vienna on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

Born in Carter County, KY, on July 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Freda Oney Williams.

Betty was one of the first majorettes during her high school years in New Vienna. She previously had worked for Community Action in Clinton County, McDonalds, Williamson Shoe, Allied Tech, Beltone and Wilmington Publishing. Betty was also retired from service on the New Vienna Village Council. She was a member of the Mount Olive Church of Christ. Betty was also an AMVETS member near Rocky Fork. What ‘Grandma Betty’ loved most was spending time with children – her own, her grandchildren and neighbor kids.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Thoroman of Washington Court House; and sons, Timothy ‘Mike’ Purtee and Dean (Linda) Ruble, all of New Vienna. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Joshua (Kristi) Thoroman, Jarrod (Jackie) Thoroman, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Thoroman, Renee Lewis, Tricia (Jeremy) Evans, Deanna (Joe) Summa, and Alexis (Christain Butler) Ruble; along with a host of great and great-great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her sisters, Clara Jean and Verennia.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Adam. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her parents; son in-law, William F. Thoroman; and several siblings.

A celebration of her life will be held at the New Vienna Citizens Center on a date and time to be announced. A private burial service will be held at the New Vienna IOOF Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Contributions are welcomed to the Clinton-Highland Joint Fire District New Vienna Life Squad or the New Vienna Citizen’s Center.
