Brad Spurlock Obituary

Brad A. Spurlock, age 54, of New Vienna, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Born in Washington Court House on July 12, 1967, he was the son of Roger and Connie Armstrong Spurlock of Hillsboro.

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jennifer Hopkins Spurlock. The two were united in marriage on June 18, 2001. Brad spent 20 years with his true soulmate, sharing the many trials and triumphs that made them stronger.

Brad served in the U.S. Air Force with the 335th Fighter Squadron in Operation Desert Storm. He spent more than 25 years working for the Ohio Department of Corrections, both at Ross Correctional Institution and Lebanon Correctional Institution, where he rose to the rank of major.

He and his wife also owned Red Barn Primitives in New Vienna, which sold many of the beautiful handmade pieces Brad built over the years or ones he had "picked" on their many vacations together. Brad enjoyed U.S. history and traveled with his wife to Gettysburg and other historic places.  Brad had many hobbies and interests, including the Civil War as well as John Wayne — and anyone who knew him could see it in his "Western room" at home. He loved the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to riding motorcycles. He was also a fan of Ohio State University.

He was devoted to his family as a son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle, with a strong bond that couldn't be broken. He felt honored and blessed to become a member of the Sinking Spring Community Church family, whose love and unwavering support showed the true hands and feet of the Lord.

He loved coaching youth sports, first for his own children, then later for two of his grandchildren, whose sports he had the privilege of coaching with his daughters.

He loved riding horses and caring for them and the other animals at his farm. His favorite meal was his mother's beef and noodles, which was the one dish he always wanted to eat, even when he was ill.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Brad is survived by his daughters: Brittany (Matt) Williams of Leesburg and Bethany (Adam Day) Spurlock of Hillsboro. Also left to cherish his memory are his stepchildren: Rachael (Andrew) Liming of New Vienna, Rebecca Houck of Middletown, and Grant (Brooke) Houck of Leesburg; grandchildren: Cole, Peyton, Mason, Mitchell, Lilly, Ayden, Easton, Brock, and Graham; his brother, Brian (Eileen Brady) Spurlock and niece, Pearl Spurlock, of Wilmington; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, where funeral services will be held on Friday, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the cemetery at Auburn United Methodist, New Vienna.
