Harold E. Mathews

Harold E. Mathews, age 96, of Washington Court House, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. 

Born on February 26, 1924 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Ray and Addie Betten Mathews. 

Harold was a Veteran of the United States Army.  He served during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient.  Following his service, Harold was employed, as a grinder, at Irwin Auger Bit in Wilmington, for over 40 years.  After retirement, Harold became a diligent fisherman – he loved to fish and would go as often as possible. 

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by siblings: Homer Mathews, James Mathews, and Helen Price. 

Left to cherish his memory are sisters: Betty (Bill) Dillard of South Charleston, Dorothy Gifford of New Carlisle, and Shirley Mathews of California; brother, Glen Mathews of Kentucky; special sister in-law Bonnie Mathews of Wilmington; special nephew Bob Lewis, and his wife, Martha of Bloomingburg; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. 

Due to COVID-19, services for Harold will be private.  Burial at Milledgeville Plymouth Cemetery, with Military Honors, will be held at the convenience of the family.  Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, has been entrusted with arrangements.
