Jane Elizabeth (Compton) Linton

We celebrate the life of our dear mother, Jane Elizabeth Linton (nee Compton), who passed away peacefully at the age of 98, on Monday, August 1, 2022, in London, Ohio.

Jane was born to Glenn and Edith Compton in Dayton, Ohio on February 25, 1924. She grew up in Dayton and graduated from Fairview High School.  She then followed in her mother's footsteps to become a registered nurse.  While working at Miami Valley Hospital, Jane met the love of her life, Norman Glenn Linton.  The couple settled in Jamestown, Ohio, where Jane continued her nursing career at Norman's medical practice for a short time. In Jamestown she was an active member of the Verda Jay Garden Club, Advance Club, Farmerettes investment club, Eastern Star and served as a cub scout den mother.  When she and Norman retired to Sun City West she joined Silver Sneakers, loved participated in water aerobics and prepared and presented weekly lessons on nutrition for other retirees.

We remember our mother as a fun-loving person, who would often frolic in our backyard pool and decorate for every holiday. She enjoyed baking, especially the apples that she gathered from our orchard to make pies. Her favorite talent was writing, and she continued to fill volumes of pages with poems and memories, up to her last days. Every person in our family received a homemade, hand-written, personal card for each birthday.  She was always delighted to be among family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Edith Compton; husband, Norman Linton; grandson, Joseph Schmidlin; son-in-law, Jeffrey Schmidlin.

She is survived by her siblings, Carolyn Peterson and Jim and Charlene Compton; her children: Nancy and Dick Ary; Kent and Helen Linton; Scott and Pam Linton; Sue Schmidlin; her 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, September 18th from 1pm to 3pm at the Jamestown Methodist Church.

It will be followed by a short graveside service for the family.
